Eid al-Fitr is an important festival celebrated by Muslims worldwide that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting. It marks the end of Ramadan, which is a month of fasting and prayer. It is not celebrated only in India, but all over the world as a ‘fast breaking ceremony’. It is celebrated as a festival with a great zeal and much enthusiasm. The preparations of this festival begin days before.  Many Muslims attend communal prayers, listen to a khutba (sermon) and give zakat al-fitr (charity in the form of food) during Eid al-Fitr.

Why people wait for festivals? The first answer will be shopping, and that too for females.There is only a few times when the lanes of Old Delhi becomes more colorful, and that is during Eid. There are various places where you can shop such as Jama Masjid, Zakir Nagar Okhla, ChitliQabar,Nizamuddin, ChandiniChowk and so on. Be it a shop for apparel, footwear, a kiosk selling kebabs or kulfis, or even a salon or a tailor shop that is open till late for everyone to complete their last minute shopping. Then there is Nizamuddin Aulia, it too holds different charm on Eid with the streets decorated with lights and streamers. Everything is available in this market from garments, home textiles to utensils. One can easily get Rosaries, prayer mats, prayer books, ittar. Also, Chandini Chowk one of the famous market to shop for Eid . The attraction of the area is that you can find almost anything from sarees, bags, clothing, shoes, Pearl, gold and silver jewelry, zardosi items, Indian traditional dresses.

PRAYERS

Each festival is Delhi is celebrated with great enthusiasm, spirit and zeal.Eid is seen as a day for special prayers. Muslims greet each other with gifts and cards. People during Eid-ul-Fitr gather at Jama Masjid which is one of the famous mosques in all over India and offer prayer. Old Delhi area is decorated throughout the Ramadan month. One can blindly choose to visit Old Delhi at Eid-ul-Fitr as this whole place is decorated with dazzling material and delectable food items are served at various stalls. Also there are various other mosques where you can go and offer prayer such as Anjuman Masjid,Aliwardi Masjid.

FOOD

Food is a staple of the Eid celebration, as families and friends come together to enjoy an elaborate and exquisitely prepared feast in each other’s company. Ramadan 2018 is here, which means it’s time for food lovers to go all out and binge on rich street foods or visit different restaurants offering delicious food or you can say Eid special cuisines such as mughlai dish, hydrabadi biryani, seviyan, mutton korma( epically during Eid) and so on. Give your mother a break from all chores of work this Eid.
